As you know, getting into museums can be pretty expensive. With all the special light shows and exclusive movies and new interactive content, museums need to charge more to support themselves now than when they just had an explanatory card next to a display of power quality analyzers. If you're going to be living in Memphis, Tennessee, or even just visiting, chances are you'll want to visit one of the museums in the Pink Palace family. You can save money by purchasing an all access pass. Here's what you'll have access to.
The Pink Palace Museum
The original Pink Palace institution is dedicated to chronicling the cultural and natural history of Memphis and the mid South. You can learn all about the history of the region, from dinosaurs to wars to diseases to the Civil Rights movement through physical displays and special media. There's also an IMAX theater with a moveable screen so you'll be able to see documentaries so clearly that you can tell if the dolphin enclosure on screen needs lagoon cleaning. You can also take a trip through the universe at the Sharpe Planetarium.
Lichterman Nature Center
If you're looking to unwind after a hard day of trading Alpha ETFs, take a trip out to the Lichterman Nature Center. It spans 65 acres in the middle of the city and features calming lakes, beautiful flowers, exotic gardens, and plenty of space in which to relax. Wildlife lovers are especially fond of the nature center, as it is home to a wide variety of local animals. While you're there, you can take a stroll along a treetop boardwalk, watch marine life from the underwater viewing area, or explore over three miles of nature trails.
Coon Creek Science Center
Kids love science, so if you're looking for a place to take the kids for an afternoon, pack up the cloth diapers and head to the Coon Creek Science Center. It's located out in MacNair County, where fossil deposits from over 70 million years ago when Tennessee was an ocean are on display for the public to enjoy. You'll see ancient clams, shellfish, sharks, and other marine life - including aquatic dinosaurs! It's a sight that's not to be missed. You can take a tour and learn all about the ancient days or learn all about digging up fossils.
Historic Houses
The Pink Palace group also owns two historic houses that are also museums. These houses are representative of the area's past, so you won't find a modern glass vanity or a TV there. The Mallory-Neely house is an Italianate mansion that dates back to the Victorian era and it has all it's original furnishings. The Mageveny House is a clapboard cottage dating back to the 1830s. It showcases the typical life of middle class Irish immigrants in the pre Civil War period.
