If you feel that it's time to sell your Acton real estate and move to Memphis, Tennessee, you've got a big job ahead of you trying to decide which house to buy. One of the things that will help your real estate agent most is to give him or her a list of your wants and needs when it comes to a home. At the top of that list should be the neighborhoods you're willing to consider living in. If you're not familiar with Memphis, we can introduce you to some of them.

A comprehensive listing of Memphis' neighborhoods would be beyond the scope of this article, because there are over 100 neighborhoods and neighborhood associations registered with the city of Memphis. They're divided into fifteen planning districts which range from areas on the outskirts where you'd have to deal with farm fencing to inner city districts that are in the process of undergoing urban renewal.

Your lifestyle and the type of home you wish to buy will determine which neighborhood will be right for you. For instance, if you're a student with a small budget and you don't mind living in an apartment smaller than the average Toronto condo, neighborhoods in the Jackson University District are where you'll want to look. Conversely, if it's a more country style of living you want, the Walnut Grove Shelby Farms District would be more up your alley.

Jackson University is one of the most popular areas to live in Memphis right now, along with the Midtown District and the neighborhoods in the Fraser-Raleigh area. Your Spokane, Washington real estate agent probably wouldn't be much help in this area, but a Memphis agent will know that other buyers prefer Depot over Millington and McKellar Lake over North Memphis. What others are doing can act as a guide for you when you're making your choice.

Of course, the most important aspect of your neighborhood choice is price. If you've just put up your house for sale in Arlington you wouldn't be able to afford a house in the downtown medical center area, where properties average out at $296,000. Meanwhile if you were looking for an inexpensive place to live, there are several neighborhoods averaging out at less than $100,000, including South Memphis, at just $46,000. More likely, though, you'll be in the market for a place in a mid range neighborhood like Depot, which is hovering at $133,000.
